Business Loan Approved For Award-Winning Butchers

A butcher's shop in County Durham has managed to secure a five-figure business loan to help it expand its operation.

Allison's of Ferryhill, one of the oldest butcher's shops in the county, will use the loan from Lloyds TSB Commercial to refurbish and extend its premises to accommodate growing demand for its award-winning meats, pies and sausages.

Owner John Allison said the bank finance will help transform the front of the 8,000 sq ft store, update the shop's refrigerator systems and install self-service counters.

Mr Allison said: "Since I took ownership of the shop in 1970, it's always been my passion to provide the highest quality meats, eggs and homemade goods for my customers."

"We offer the best standards of customer service and highest level of training, so we have prospered over the years and have protected our trade from the impact of the larger supermarket stores."

He added: "You hear about businesses struggling for credit, but we had no problem. We own the premises and are a well-established name, so I think that gave the bank the confidence to get behind us."

Jane Walker, relationship manager for Lloyds TSB Commercial, said: "John and his team are a great example of a small business that has worked hard to build an excellent reputation."
